Thanks Tony.. after i took them i really wished i had brought a better camerra. All my pics are always taken with my trusty little pocket Canon IXUS55... you could do so much nicer with a better camerra and lens.. i just never use my SLR anymore as its film.. and that seems to be a vanishing thing.. need to buy a digitial SLR with some nice lenses...! Iamgine how much better the shot could have been with a nice wide angle lens..

The reality Michael, is that if you have a digital SLR and a whole bunch of lenses it will usually stay at home - I've seen it so many times. Trusty "point and shoot" cameras have come an extremely long way with technology over the last few years, and many of the "pro" users usually have small cameras as that catches the moment/shot. Personally, I have started to move away from the larger SLR bodies, indeed Sony have something called the NEX series which is a mirrorless technology which allows for a compact body and is shaking the "pro" market by it's knees. Many semi-pro and amateur users are starting to use this system, with Canon and Nikon expected to play catch-up soon.

Composition of your shot and using the surrounding light (as Silver, like White cars are notoriously are difficult to photograph) is IMHO perfect. You mention a wide angle lens, that would have given you a very different and striking effect. You could also use a telephoto lens say at least 100mm at a distance of say 30-40 yards or so, and then with an aperture of f5.6 (as this also allows for a relatively high shutter speed to negate the effects of camera shake) that would give a little "blur" to the surrounding field of view allowing for your subject, in this case your car, being pin sharp and thus "drawing" the natural eye of the viewer.

You can try "experimenting" with so many type of shots using the manual mode on any camera - so nothing wrong with your little pocket Canon IXUS, I have one and use it a lot also   Just get shooting and posting the pics online

Tony,

The ability to just have the camerra in the pocket was why i bought the ixus.. the nikon slr was a pain to carry around.. bags/lenses.. but it does make for beautiful photos for the inconvenience... will ook into the camerras you mention.. i'm about due for a new toy!
