Why cut this out of the tunnel?

Post by meadowhog » Thu Jul 12, 2012 10:56 pm

Time to fit carpets and found this. My last tiger had a bit of choppage to get an auto box in but this seems a bit drastic? Just wondered what it could have been done for?

I've seen something similar for fitting a 5 speed Tremec for a 'powerful' setup, seems a big Auto box was being 'retro' fitted. Any metal chopped out from below?

Yep, part of the chasis is missing too. Currently has breathed on 302 with MK2 box. Not too sure of history but previous owner seems to think it was dragged and either bent a valve or pushrod hence why it was sold. It went through Mike Herning at some point.

How very odd, why would someone do that in such a botched fashion?

It look's like at some point your cars been fitted with a g'box that has had a central gearstick and at the very rear of the tail case?

5 Speed Borg Warner T5 from a Sierra Cosworth come's to mind there.

"Similar" box as fitted to 90's Mustang's, although the Mustang T5 is somewhat shorter with it's gearstick a way forward and to the left making it's location near to where the Tiger stick should be. A nicer conversion to what's been done there? and one that i carried out on a friends car some time back, works well.

But i'm sure with your background and past involvement with the marque your'll have that put right soon enough Simon.
