Engine will not turnover
Hello I have a tiger that has sat in the garage for approx 1yr. The battery has not been conected during that time and was bought new approx 8mmths ago. I have connected the battery and there seems to be power in there also for additional boost I have jump started it from another car. The car doesn't turn over there is just a click when the ignition key is turned. I have also put car into gear and rocked the car to and fro (suggested by someone). Tried again and still the same problem, just a click and no turnover. I have now also noticed clutch peddle hits the floor when previously it was ok . Has anyone any ideas before the car is taken to the garage. Much appreciated in advance.

Hi tom,
Were you having problems starting your Tiger prior to being put in storage? Can the motor be turned by hand? You could also check the connections to the starter motor or even the starter motor itself. In regards to the clutch, it sounds like you have a leak somewhere or something broken which will need to be rectified. These things you can check yourself, but if you can't do them I think it sounds like you need to tow it.
Good luck and keep us informed.
Regards, Robin.

Hi Tom
Do you own a multi meter if so check the voltage on the battery should be in the region of 12.4 volts any less and the battery will need charging. Next check the starter solinoid you can bridge out the two large terminals which will send 12 v to the starter and the engine will turn over if it does then the solinoid is faulty.
where are you in the uk?

Hi Tom, one of two faults, [thats if the battery is good].if you can hear a click, that is the solinoid and the starter not turning, so either starter no good, prob not if it was ok. so it sounds like your engine has locked up and the clutch has possibly stuck to flywheel. Put car in 4th gear, and roll the car so the engine turns over, if it is seized, it may take a bit of shoving, if it was stuck, and you get engine to turn, it should then turn over with starter. then un plug coil & crank untill you get oil preasure. once you get engine to fire up [if your lucky] you then have to sort the clutch, make sure you have fluid, then you have to push clutch arm into clutch slave cyl, and get someone to pump pedal. if you get a pedal and clutch is stuck, run engine untill hot, then jam pedal down and wait for engine to cool, again if your lucky the clutch should free as engine cools down. All a lot of if's & but's i know, but maybe some help, good luck. Harry.

Tom, my guess is that, unless you have kept it charged, the battery has died. They need to be charged at least monthly if not used.
If you have a voltmeter, then the measurement you need is battery voltage when the starter key is turned. If that is much lower than 12 volts you have a battery or batt lead/earthing problem.
If you dont have a meter, put on your headlights and turn the starter; if the light go very dim that confirms battery/lead problem.

Sorry for the delay in replying!
Just to say thank you to all the suggestions received in relation to original post.
The car now is up & running! The fault seemed to be a connection problem to starter motor which took all of a couple of minutes in the end to fix. New clutch master cylinder fitted also, now ready to go.
Thanks again!
