i thought some people might appreciate the details of my insurance renewal this year. of course premiums vary according to your circumstances and my car is quite heavily modified:
Adrian Flux: I was with them for the last 2 years and they sent me a renewal price of 391 pounds!
Peter James: quoted me 271.
Footman James: quoted me 281.
Adrian Flux then beat Peter James by about 50 pence once i called them up, so I stuck with them for another year.
i have other cars with AF and FJ but never tried PJ before.
of course, i'm not endorsing any of these companies!

I don't want to upset you, but I,ve just renewed with Flux for £235. Thats with some speeding points, & I've declared my 302 with supercharger. Value only £15000 & 5000 miles though. Addition of supercharger only added £40, much to my amazement. They must know how slow I drive.

yes, they seem to pretty much stop adding premium after the first 150hp increase or thereabouts. i declared a whole A4 sheet of modifications! for the blower, what did you say to the question 'who did the work and what are there qualifications?' - 'me - non'?
i'm only 29 though. i think that doesn't help.
i've never figured out how they calculate premiums, some of my other cars attract pretty wildly different premiums:
jaguar xjr - 370hp - 120 pounds (limited mileage).
new shape mini - 265hp - 680 pounds!
aston db9 - 470hp - 580 pounds.

I'm with Heritage. 3000 miles plus agreed value of 13500.
Insurance is £141.
My age is only 39 and Jason 42

bob your prob classed as low risk ,as your car is off the rd a lot being fixed after u break it,surprised your merc made it to southport after the nuburring.

The question was asked "whats the power now?" I took a wild guess at 300 bhp as it's a 302 motorsport engine running 8psi boost & its not been on a rolling road yet, so I'm not sure..... I might be wrong though.
But as Gary, so kindly noticed ,its off the road for at least 6 months a year & very low risk.

300 at the wheels would be conservative id guess.. if its running right.
With a 302 alloy heads roller rockers roller cam you should be around 280ish at the rear wheels.. with a supercharger id want close to 400.. otherwise you are going through all the hastle and plumbing for what you can get reliably out of an NA motor.. a nice 347 stroker with alloy heads would get you mid 300's

I think it's important you guy's & girls, look at increasing your agreed value's. I am with Allianz, [5000miles a year garaged] and have just got them to increase from £16000 agreed value to £30,000. premium rose from £140.00 to £195.00. I backed up the value, with a few photo's [my car does look better in photo's than close up] a copy of the article in classic & sports car on Tiger value's + a few images of the best Tiger's from classifieds and there asking price.
My car may or may not be worth that price, and it's not for sale or would i sell it, but for the extra 50 quid, gives peace of mind, and how do you replace a nice straight, rust free Tiger these day's. The policy allso look's great value if compared to the other figures quoted.

i agree. i've set mine at 19,000 which i think is reasonable. if the car was unmodified, the insurance would be cheaper and the value would be higher. but it isn't

its also LHD which adds a little.
any modification instantly jacks up the premium. when my mini was stock (165bhp manufacturers spec) the insurance was under 200 quid. now with 265 at the wheels its 680 pounds and limited to 10k miles on the best quote i could get. visually it looks exactly same. do i think that makes sense? not really - but the car is certainly a handful, so its fair to pay a little more.

while this is in AU.. something to consider.. my SII alpine with SI 1494cc motor twin DCOE carbs, elec ignition, flat tops, modded head would cost more to insure than a stock MKI tiger.. reason.. tiger would be stock.. i gaurentee you a stock tiger would still see off the alpine (in a straight line anyway) so i guess they say.. if these guys are jacking up the power.. they are doign ti to drive faster.. hence higher premium.. id love to see what they say if you keep the motor stock.. add better brakes, quieter exhaust and a safety mods.. would they still charge more?

Strongly recommend Hagerty, especially if you have more than one classic to insure.

My policy mid-2009 came to an end with Royal Sun Alliance and sadly they were pulling out of the classic car insurance market in the UK. Shame really as I was very pleased with the premiums, though never needed to submit a claim.
Did find a very competitive deal with Footman James who also threw in breakdown cover which was not restricted to age of vehicle, best of all the free breakdown cover also covered european travel
Also, restricted mileage not an issue as Footman James does not limit the annual mileage
