dean did my 289 as for price depends on what you need.and if you want a warranty lol .mine was honed rather than rebored .so save on pistons ect .had 30lb oil pressure before and 7 broken rings .now 55lb.

Thankyou Gary.
The thing is, I've removed the cylinder heads and found the tops of the pistons and the cylinder head are covered in burnt on black crap.
It could be a bad case of carbon deposit or it could be burnt oil.
There seems to be a lot of it too but as I am very inexperienced with engines, I dont really know.
I intended to replace the gaskets on the engine and unlead the heads and pretty much leave it at that but then this has come along and I dont know what to do.
I may contact Dave Herning and see what he thinks as he has been extremely helpful in the past or I may just put a cover over it and forget about it for a while.

Cylinder head
Pistons
Dont get hung up on the oil residue.
I took the heads off some time ago and because I knew it was going to sit for a while I (rightly or wrongly) put a tiny amount of oil in each pot.
Do they look like original pistons?

Martin, clean up the top of a piston to see if there is anything stamped onto it? I maybe wrong but I think the originals had STD on them. If they have been changed its usually because the bores needed enlarging and the pistons will have the oversize amount stamped on them.
I stripped my last engine down but left the crank assembly in situe. I got my local engine shop to hone the bores and put in new rings and bearings, also to clean out the block and pistons etc. Didnt charge a lot

Cleaned 2 pistons. No markings at all.

How much of a build up is there at the top of each bore? If it was me i'd drop a couple of valves to look at the seats & stems & also take a piston out to check the bores & rings.

Martin.
How was it running before you pulled the car apart. Oil pressure etc.

It was a few years ago but as I remember it was running nice and had good pressure. Can't remember what it was exactly though.

Hi Martin,
the pics of the pistons show standard pistons/bore.
Carbon on valves and heads, normal for an original engine.
Yes I am still in business, phone numbers in front of your Cats Wiskers Magazine

looks like it just wants a de coke.as old leaded cars uesd to .the engines are pretty bombproof .unless you buy a brand new one and it stops after 1500 easy miles
