Wheel hop and traction

It seems wheel hop is a common thing for our Tigers. Traction could also be enhanced as well. Cal Tracs
http://www.calvertracing.com/caltracs.php seem to be the best at contolling wheel hop and providing the best traction for leaf spring cars. They don't make them for our Tigers. I found these plans to build your own on the net. I thought some may be interested. I have posted the link.

fitting the caltracs will give ground clearance issues to theground on a raod car.. look into one of dan walters torque arms for the tiger.

A good guide to rear suspension arrangements is found here:

Description and photo of a 5 link rear kit for Morris 1000:

The early Mk1 and Mk2 Ford Escorts often used 5 link arrangements for rallying.
Basically you have two choices.
Keep the leaf springs and use traction bars LAT-5 or LAT-6 (or similar):
http://www.tigersunited.com/resources/p ... ce/lat.asp
Alternatively scrap the leaf springs and go with a much more efficient and much more expensive coilover set-up plus 4 or 5 links.
There are two pictures here of a Griggs Racing rear suspension on a Tiger:

Thanks for all the info guys. I will be sticking with leaf springs. Some new well designed ones will be a good start.
I will put the car up on axle stands and see how the dan walter tourqe arm fits. I might be able to fab my own.
Thanks again mal

with good strong stiff springs and koni shocks in place of the bolt on traction bars, i bet you won't get any wheel hop. works for me.
rear end remains quite supple and predictable compared to rigid bars too.

owain,
Aren't you running anti tramp shocks as well? Which are like a traction bar? i have Dales rear springs and 195 series tyres on the back and i can still bounce the axel if i get into it a little to early...

...240 odd horsepower at the wheels will also do it too

I have to admit, I have never heard of anti tramp shocks before.

Hi,
I also have never heard of anti-tramp shocks

. How do they differ from standard shock absorbers?
Thanks, Robin.

Hi,
I've got a set of original factory anti tramp shocks and bracketry hung on the wall in my garage...
(don't know if they were optional extra's or had a LAT no;?)
they are fitted horizontly at the side of the leaf spring to dampen spring wind up.
there was a article about them in the Cats Whiskers a bit back.....
D...
THERE'S NO REPLACEMENT FOR DISPLACEMENT!!!!!!
