Hi,
Following on from a question on another forum and aimed at the Mk II owners, were the 289 engines in the Mk II's a five or six bolt pattern as standard? I know the 260's were, but not sure about the 289's judging by the reply I had. I always thought they were all five-bolt patterns.
Thanks, Robin.

Hi,
They were all 6 bolt 289's fitted to the mk11.... the gearbox is also different...
as you will know the 260 is a 5 bolt....they did make a 5 bolt 289 fitted in the ford fairlane..... they only made them for 18month's....they went to the 6 bolt pattern becuase of larger more reliable clutches...so i'm told.
there a bit rare the old 5 bolt 289...

MKII 289 Motors

Rootes did order a couple of 5 bolt 289 engines from Ford which ended up in MK1 'AF' cars. The motors have assembly dates of 19 June 1964. Subsequent orders (it is thought in early '65) to supply the MKII evaluation programme were 6 bolt as per the production run.
One of these 5 bolt motors survives in B9470010.
