To be honest, I think she wants it back together so we can get out and enjoy it.
When you keep discovering this amount of work needed just in the body, humour keeps you going.

Inthe left sidechassis rail there is a inner section of support. This was not in the right side. Should the right side have this as well :?: . Also it has a threaded hole. What is it for :?: . Any help much appreciated.

Mal,

Looks like the panhard rod mounting havew you got a wider shot so i can see exactly where you are showing?... did the car have the panhard rod when you got it? they locate the axel laterally. They also have a habbit of tearing the bracket as the mounting does not leave the rod in a horizontal plane.. on the MKII they swicthed it over.. but still tends to pull the mount out.

Michael, the previous pic is a pic of the left side, so the panhard rod is mounted to the right.
Right side pic below. Sorry I don't have a wider pic of the passenger side and all this was patched over. Thanks.

The threaded hole is probably for the Alpine bump stop.

The one on the other side may have never been fitted because the Panhard rod was welded in there.

Martin, it could well be. It seems to be inside the chassis rail but could align with a hole in the outer rail. If it is the Alpine bump stop, the right side would have one as well. The inner gaurd has been repaired before so that inner rail on the right side probably had rusted out and wasn't replaced. I just wonder if it is needed for strenght as well.

I don't know Mal but the strengthening properties that it offers may only be there to take the shock from the bump stop being hit.
You'll have to wait for a bodywork specialist to turn up.

If you get in touch with Dean regarding the rack, ask him. He should know.

Hi Guys,

Michael was quite correct as it had me that intrigued, I had to go and have a look at my Tiger and it is the body mount for the panhard rod. As Mal pointed out it is the right hand side of the Tiger. The bump stops on Tigers are a metal disc welded to the chassis which line up with the rubber stop mounted to the diff.

Yes, you're right Robin, but unless mine and Mal's Tigers are unique :shock: , the threaded hole for the Alpine bump stop is still there.
On mine it is visible on the passenger side, but was either never fitted or covered by the panhard rod mounting bracket on the driver's side.

Hi Martin,

Mine too has the threaded hole, so unless mine too is unique all Tigers would be the same. That's Rootes for you though... they possibly filled one hole and forgot the other. :? :)

Thanks guys, it seems that it is only the bump stop thread for the Alpine, so not too much to worry about. Seems as though that section has rusted out on the right and removed in previous rust repairs.

He has made patterns for the rear rails, so he can make more. But you need to take out all you see to fit them.
