Reversing Lights

Post by martin172 » Sun Jul 17, 2011 10:23 pm

Do Tigers have to have reversing lights?

I imagine the answer is no but I thought I'd check with you guys.

Thanks.

Hi Martin,

The reverse lights were a dealer fitted option. You normally see either the Wipac or Sparto lights fitted. The other option I have seen is to wire the rear indicators to come on when in reverse.

My reversing lights are here....

They're ok but they do make the rear end look a bit cluttered, so I think I will take them off.

I don't know what make they are or when they were put on.

Hi Martin,

Your right, it does look a little cluttered and not really that classic look in my opinion. Most people mount the reverse lights below the rear bumper, but you do see quite a few cars with them mounted similar to yours. Not sure what brand they are, but probably just a generic type. The other problem is to fill the holes once they are removed, but I guess not a big issue.

Regards, Robin.

The sunbeam alkpines and tigers were offered with 2 types of reversing lights. The first were made by sparto and offered on SI-IV alpines and the MKI Tigers. these resemble exhausts and were mounted bellow the bumper either at the point where the valence begins to durve to the side flanks, or another set of bases that mounted them inboard of the over riders.

When the SV Alpines and MKIA/MKII Tigers were produced rootes offered WIPAC reversing lights. These are rectangular and fitted under the bumber inboard of the over riders. The wipacs were avilable on other cars, but the correct ones ofr sunbeams have a rear mounting that is drilled through the valence and held horizintal by spacers that match the curve of the valence.

i have an article on these lights showing the brackets spacers and mounts they used if you are interested. They have higher quality pics and shots of just the lamps and parts.
